The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2011 in Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses (A).

The department offers undergraduate programme (B.Tech) with an intake of 60. The admissions are made through AP EAPCET rankings. The faculty members of the department are a combination of both high qualification and experience. Professors: 03, Associate Professor: 01, Assistant Professors: 07, Technical staff: 04. Five faculty members have Ph.D. and four faculty members are undergoing Ph.D. programme. The Department received financial assistance from NSTEDB, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, India for organizing Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp in the year 2016 and financial aid from MSME in the year 2022. The students are exposed to the knowledge of designing and development of various products and systems to meet the needs of industry and society. The students are also exposed to various laboratories of Manufacturing Technology, Thermal Engineering, Heat transfer, Material Testing, Industrial Engineering, CAD, IoT, etc., for conducting experiments and research activities. The students are participating in national/international workshops/seminars and presenting papers at national/international level conferences under the guidance of faculty members. They are also encouraged to participate in NCC, NSS, sports and games at national and university level. The department is equipped with research based laboratories provided with stir casting equipment, TIG & MIG etc. Presently, professors of this department are guiding 10 PhD research scholars.

Publications of faculty: More than 120 Research papers appeared in International and National Journals / Conferences.

Admissions under Category "A" (Convener’s Quota-70% of intake in each branch):

A Candidate for admission to the four-year degree course in Engineering must have passed the Intermediate examination of the Board of Intermediate Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects. All the eligible applicants for admission into First Year shall have to qualify in the EAPCET Examination conducted by the Govt. of AP. The candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance with the merit secured at the Entrance Examination keeping in view the rules in force regarding the reservations of seats of various categories of candidates. The candidates should satisfy local/non-local status requirement as laid down in the AP Educational institutions (Regulation of Admissions) Order 1974 as amended from time to time.

Admissions under Category "B" (30% of intake in each branch):

The seats shall be filled as per the rules given by APSCHE.
